Course Content: The focus of the course is directed to product designers who haven’t had an opportunity for formal training in product design for compliance, EMC troubleshooting and performing simple characterization and pre-compliance testing at the work bench level. We’ll concentrate on the top three EMC issues that usually crop up; radiated emissions, radiated immunity, electrostatic discharge. Other failure issues, such as electrically fast transient (EFT) and various power line immunity tests will be mentioned briefly. In addition, we’ll discuss the growing issue of receiver desense due to self-generated EMI in wireless/IoT devices. Live demos are included. Participants will come away with a basic understanding of EMC principles, how to design products to comply with EMC, bench-level troubleshooting techniques and ways to lower the risk of compliance failures by performing simple in0house pre-compliance testing. These skills will translate to faster product development and much lower EMC-associated cost.
